Five concentric rings of glass spheres are mounted to the wall and arranged in a circle 265 centimetres in diameter to create a dynamic, floating composition. Each ring comprises spheres of a single size, with some spheres quite large, and others rather small. One half of each sphere’s surface has been given a mirror finish through a hand-silvering process and covered by a layer of matte black paint. As they progress along their respective rings, the spheres are turned at incremental angles so that the visibility of the reflective inner surface gradually grows and diminishes as the black outer coating shifts in orientation. The interiors of the spheres are filled to varying degrees with vivid reflections that dance among the surfaces of matte black and clear glass; these cause the work’s appearance to respond to the viewer’s every movement.
