Six large rings, inclined at various angles, intersect to form delicately balanced combinations. The rings can be grouped into two sets according to size, with one set smaller than the other. Each set in turn presents three frozen instances of a ring as it turns and falls to the ground. Situated in the public plaza in front of the Alsik hotel in Sønderborg, Denmark, the clusters function like a series of gates that can be passed through or navigated around, urging passers-by to take new routes to the waterfront and to engage actively with their surroundings. While the steel rings appear perilously balanced, they are in fact structurally stable and perfectly robust.
