To create this painting, Eliasson explored the creative possibilities afforded by the medium and the vagaries of chance. Alcohol ink is a material that is distinguished by its especially vibrant hues and fast drying time. It is also given to spreading and blending unpredictably. For this painting, Eliasson poured the diluted inks directly onto the page and allowed them to bleed into the paper, only ever intervening in gentle ways, by tilting the board or nudging the flow with a hairdryer, to arrive at the final composition. The abstract shapes, which flow out from the centre of the paper and could be interpreted as reminiscent of a landscape, are thus the results of a collaboration between the artist and chance.
