Twenty-one meteorites, affixed to a circular board, surround a white LED, interrupting its light with oblong shadows that stretch to the board’s edges. The circular board, painted black and coated with a metallic sand, glistens in the LED’s light, and a round covering shields the light from frontal view, evoking the imagery of an eclipse or black hole at the board’s centre. The 14-million-year-old meteorites, believed to have struck the Campo del Cielo near Buenos Aires some five thousand years ago, cast shadows that, individually, suggest their motion towards the centre and, collectively, create an abstract pattern of light and dark across the work.
