This new series of works was created in a medium that the artist has been exploring for the last three years: inks that are diluted with isopropyl alcohol. In this series Eliasson poured the alcohol inks onto the untreated round canvases and allowed them to spread slowly outwards. The vibrant aureoles that distinguish these canvases reflect the predominance of the colour yellow in the works, combined with the other primary colours of the subtractive colour model, magenta and cyan. The contrasting palette makes the works feel especially luminiscent, like portraits of the energy of the sun or the birth of a world.
As with the colour experiment paintings that Eliasson first began developing in 2009, these works are executed on circular canvases. The round frames keep the eye in constant motion; the compositions are determined from the centre outwards rather than by the artificial boundaries of a square frame.
