In this site-specific installation for the exhibition Contact, two large glass spheres have been set into the walls at either end of a figure-eight-shaped room. Each sphere serves as an optical device, offering visitors distorted, inverted views of the museum beyond the exhibition. Outside the walls of the installation and visible through one of the glass spheres, a mobile consisting of two smaller glass spheres rotates slowly. The view through this optical device – normally inverted by the large glass sphere – appears suddenly right side up in the smaller spheres as they pass in front of the large sphere. The walls of the completely black space are covered in a finely ground, lightly reflective sand; the limits of the dark room are more easily understood through touch than sight.
