Commissioned by Zumtobel AG to make their annual report, Eliasson, with the graphic designer Andreas Koch, conceived a twin volume, opening from both sides with a double Swiss brochure binding. One half consists of documentary material from the symposium Life in Space 3, held on 9 May 2008 at Studio Olafur Eliasson. The other half of the book is dedicated to the Zumtobel AG annual report.
Since 2006, Olafur Eliasson has annually brought together collaborators, friends, members of his Studio, and other people from architecture, art, and the natural and social sciences to discuss themes related to the research that takes place at Studio Olafur Eliasson. Bearing the title The relativity of light and colour, Life in Space 3 consisted of experiments, discussions, and coffee-break conversations. These are presented in the publication, which closely follows the programme of the day. A time-line thus runs through the pages, standard page numbers having been replaced by time indications. Carefully choreographed image recordings of the day’s proceedings furnish most of the visual material, which are combined to create narrative sequences in a graphic design that also emphasises the focus on colour. Six covers exist, each of which features a different section of the colour spectrum.
Life in Space 1 (2006) and Life in Space 2 (2007) are documented in Olafur Eliasson: Your Mobile Expectations; BMW H2R Project.
