The phrase “the speed of your attention” was introduced to Eliasson by Joe Dumit, a friend and an anthropologist at UC Davis who participated in a workshop at Eliasson’s Berlin studio in the summer of 2018, where he conducted a movement experiment. Dumit encountered the phrase in the work of Nita Little, one of the pioneers of contact improvisation, in the context of instructions to “move at the speed of your attention.”
