The large stone series articulates Eliasson's recurring interest in the condition of gravity. As Matthew Drutt explains, the series shows boulders that 'actually are perched on unstable surfaces--smaller stones; they appear top-heavy and sit at angles that suggest eventual dispalcement or movement. Further, these images, which portray their subjects in isolation, surrounded by an empty expanse, raise the question of how these big rocks got there in the first place, since we see no mountains in the immediate area from which they might have tumbled.'

(Matthew Drutt, 'Olafur Eliasson: A Cultivated View', from Olafur Eliasson: Photographs, 2004, p. 14.)
