For the last decade, Eliasson has created glass works and watercolours inspired by the themes of colour, transparency, and layering. For this work, colourful panes of silvered glass present an array of circles that overlap and extend along the wall at an angle. This dynamic composition of rings and circles is based on the phenomenon known as a lens flare – the rings and circles of light that appear in a camera when it is pointed towards the sun or another bright light. In film and photography, a flare is considered to be an error or waste product. Resulting from the physics of the lens, it is generally undesired. Here it is transformed into the central element to be explored in all its possibilities.
