Fog couch is a long sofa that is composed of modular segments, each of which has different dimensions. The shape of each section depends on the relationship between the elliptical back section and the rectangular base – the angle at which the ellipse is tilted is determined by the size of the base section. Fog couch is upholstered in a unique fabric of knitted wool – designed by Eliasson in collaboration with the Danish textile firm Kvadrat – that suggests the rippling sand left behind by a receding tide. This fabric is one result of Eliasson and Kvadrat’s ongoing research relationship exploring spatial knitting and other textile designs.
