In 2009 Eliasson began working with a colour chemist to mix paints in hues that approximate each nanometre of light in the visible spectrum. Since then Eliasson has produced a large number of paintings collectively known as the Colour experiments. All are painted on round canvases, often with holes at the centre, consciously suggesting a colour wheel and presenting an alternative to the simple schema taught in schools.
