From 15 September 2024 to 6 July 2025, the exhibition Olafur Eliasson: OPEN took place at the Geffen Contemporary at MOCA, in Los Angeles, as part of the Getty initiative ‘PST ART: Art & Science Collide’. The exhibition presented over a dozen new site-specific installations that responded to the Geffen building and the atmospheric conditions of Los Angeles, as well as a selection of recent paintings, sculptures, and installations that reflect the artist's decades-long engagement with perception, geometry, natural phenomena, and colour. The works draw attention to the relativity of our perceptions and challenge habitual ways of seeing and experiencing the world. Every artwork in Eliasson's view contains an aspect that is radically open.
The exhibition was accompanied by Your OPEN experience, a project developed by Joe Dumit and Studio Olafur Eliasson as part of Experimenting, Experiencing, Reflecting (EER), an art-science project led by artist Olafur Eliasson and scientist Andreas Roepstorff (Aarhus University) and funded by the Carlsberg Foundation (2019–25). Your OPEN experience is a tool for experimenting, experiencing, and reflecting based on the artworks in the exhibition.
