A geometric pattern covers the surface of a glass sphere resting on a pedestal. The sphere has been silvered and then painted flat black; thin lines in the silvering and paint have been cut out along certain circumferential segments to create the surface’s geometric pattern. When viewers peer into the sphere, these interstitial voids reveal a mesmerising infinitude, as the work’s geometry is reflected again and again in the mirror finish that coats the sphere’s inner surface. With this sphere, Eliasson continues to explore the geometric vocabulary of three-dimensional addition and subtraction he began examining together with Einar Thorsteinn a decade and a half ago.
