Published as part of the Icelandic newspaper Morgunblaðið on 12 May 2005, this independent supplement presents Eliasson’s photographic work Jokla series, 2004, in its entirety as well as ‘Travelling Imaginations’ by Doreen Massey, an excerpt from her book For Space (London: Sage Publications, 2005). Jokla series consists of forty-eight aerial photographs documenting the glacial river Jokla, whose source is Vatnajökull, Iceland’s biggest glacier. At the time of recording, the river was the subject of intense debate about whether to preserve the wilderness in which it was situated or to dam it in order to produce electricity for aluminium factories. The latter eventually happened in 2006. As part of his exhibition The body as brain: Projekt Sammlung (3) at Kunsthaus Zug in Switzerland, 2005, Eliasson used Lesbók Morgunblaðsins: Jökluserían as wallpaper for the museum café.
